About us: TYLA is an early intervention youth development trust Established in 1996. Our mission is to inspire a movement that validates early intervention as the most effective way of creating enduring, transformational and sustained change in our most vulnerable youth. We operate two sites – Avondale and Ōtara – serving communities in South and Central West Auckland through catered mentoring programmes.

Potential responsibilities depending on your experience and background:

  • Organisational leadership and advisement.
  • Formulation and oversight of health, financial and governance policies and procedures, and the Codes of Practice, Ethics and Behaviour.
  • Financial management, including adoption and oversight of the annual budget.
  • Promotion of the organisation.
  • Fundraising and outreach.
  • Grant writing.
  • Media, public relations, marketing advice and oversight.
  • Legal advice.

Members of the board share these responsibilities while acting in the interest of TYLA. Each member is expected to make recommendations based on his or her experience and vantage point in the community.

Expectations of board members: • Attend and participate in meetings on a regular basis, and special events as able. • Participate on a standing committee of the board and serve on ad-hoc committees as necessary. • Be alert to community concerns that can be addressed by TYLA’s mission, objectives, and programs. • Help communicate and promote TYLA’s mission and programs to the community. • Become familiar with finances, budget, and financial/resource needs. • Understand the policies and procedures of TYLA.

Length of term: Ongoing (preferably a minimum of a 3 year commitment)

Meetings and time commitment: • The board meets monthly at present but in future will likely meet bi-monthly. • Board members are asked to attend no more than two special events or meetings per year, as they are determined.

Salary: Please note that this is and unpaid volunteer position.

Location: We are base in Auckland, New Zealand and are only looking at applicants from this location at this time. While many of the meetings are held remotely, there are certain events and meetings where in-person attendance will be required.
