Central Otago Search and Rescue is looking for Admin Support volunteers!
These people provide services to the Incident Management Team and the deployed field teams during a search and rescue operation, and help our groups operate. It is a vital role and search and rescue operations cannot function without it. These support services would mainly include:
• Computer and data management • Use of base radios and logging communications • Collating information • Issuing of equipment.
It may also include adding information to mapping programmes, organising transport and organising replacements/ extra gear and meals.
Admin support volunteers’ tasks vary. They do not require a level of fitness or in-depth knowledge of the outdoors. An eye for detail, logical yet diverse thinking, flexibility and working under pressure are key attributes for this role.
Admin Support volunteers are called upon to support search and rescue operations. This could occur at any time of the day or night. Volunteers’ families, whānau, and employers should all be comfortable with this possibility.
Land Search and Rescue provides a variety of training for Admin Support volunteers. Some of it is provided by professional tutors organised at a national level by Land Search and Rescue and some of it is provided by the Central Otago Search and Rescue group locally.
The frequency and duration of training varies, but as a general rule the Admin Support unit will train on the third Wednesday of the month and field teams train the first Wednesday of each month, and a couple of weekends a year. Admin support will be needed on some Field team trainings. This a good opportunity for you to get to know the wider team and for them to get to know you.
If you are interested please get in touch by emailing [email protected] and let us know why you think you would be a great addition to the team.
