Health Shuttle Assistant

St John New Zealand

Making over 65,000 trips per year, the St John Health Shuttle is a free community service that transports people to and from essential medical and health related appointments. The service is often used by older people, by people who are too unwell to drive a vehicle, and those who cannot access other transport options.

Supporting our fleet of 5 St John Health Shuttles, you will be working closely with the Team Leader to ensure the smooth operation of our shuttles in the local community. You will be responsible for cleaning vehicle interiors and exteriors in compliance with required standards, re-stocking supplies, and performing basic mechanical checks such as water, oil and tyre pressure.

What do I need to volunteer in this role?

No prior experience is required, however there are of course some essential requirements:

  • Held a full and clean NZ Drivers Licence for at least 12 months (vehicle may be a manual)
  • Have a clean police record
  • Have basic vehicle maintenance knowledge
  • Ability to commit one to two hours per week, in weekends or evenings
  • Have excellent communication and problem solving skills
  • Friendly, caring and compassionate, with a genuine interest in the well-being of others
  • Be physically fit

Please note: all appointments are subject to satisfactory completion of pre-employment checks including, but not limited to, references, police and driver checks, and medical clearance. For driving roles, you will be required to meet the St John medical standards.

In return, we will provide relevant training (including First Aid Level 1), a uniform, ongoing support, and St John membership (which gives free ambulance service for immediate family).

The best gift anyone can give is 'time'. Come join our team of volunteers where the time they give is highly valued in their communities.

COVID-19 Vaccinations

St John is required to comply with the COVID-19 Public Health Response (Vaccinations) Order 2021. This means to be considered for this role, you will need to be fully vaccinated, including having or intending to receive your Booster prior to commencement. (Booster vaccinations are required within 6 months of receiving your second vaccination.) Proof of COVID-19 vaccination will be requested as part of the recruitment process.

We welcome and encourage diversity in our workforce and adhere to best practice equal employment opportunity principles in all aspects of our recruitment and our ways of working.
