We are looking for creative, passionate people who are interested in becoming a volunteer for young people with disabilities in our weekly singing or dancing workshops.
StarJam is an award-winning non-profit organisation that empowers young New Zealanders with disabilities to achieve their full potential through music and performance workshops.
We connect our young people with disabilities with their passions, peers and wider community. We provide weekly workshops in drumming, singing and dancing as well as opportunities for our Jammers (our young people) to perform at public and private events, as well as StarJam’s regular community discos.
We provide our Jammers with the opportunity to look the world in the eye as equals and experience the joy in their hearts and the belief that anything is possible. All young New Zealanders with or without a disability deserve the opportunity to be the best they can be. What matters to us is what our young people can achieve – not what they can’t.
We run workshops that each requires two dedicated volunteers to help supervise and support young people with disabilities in a singing, dancing or drumming workshop.
The workshop is run by a tutor and the volunteers are there to support the tutor and young people – ensuring the safety and enjoyment of the participants. The workshops are held on a regular week night during the school terms from 6.30pm - 8pm, so is best suited to someone who can commit to regular involvement, one night per week during the StarJam term.
