Native Forest Regeneration - Makara Peak

Volunteer Wellington
Logo for Volunteer Wellington

Come join us on this day as we head to Makara Peak to care and maintain previously planted trees to ensure the natives survive. The Makara Peak Supporters were established in 1998 to work in partnership with Wellington City Council to plan and develop a mountain bike park and restore native forest. Their aim is to create a world-class mountain bike park, for all skill levels, in restored native forest. This land was once inhabited by kiwi and the hope is that one day there will be enough forest cover, and with predator eradication, kiwi will roam in the huge expansive forests once again. What to wear/bring: Sturdy boots, long sleeves and long trousers are essential. Ensure you pack warm clothes such as a beanie, jumper and a rain jacket to protect you against wind and rain. Bring a full water bottle and food! What we provide: Gloves, tools and high-vis vests. Free transport available from Wellington City - get in touch to book a seat as spaces are limited! REGISTRATIONS ARE ESSENTIAL.
