The past 22 months of living in a global pandemic has created many challenges for individuals and families whānau. People have still got pregnant though and families have still welcomed little ones into the world, but their experiences of this have been quite different at times than they might have otherwise expected. At the very heart of what Pregnancy Help does is to care about people, and this has become even more needed since February last year. We offer a safe space for people to talk about the highs and the lows of their lives. We help to keep little ones warm when the weather is cold by providing woollen singlets, hats, booties, and baby bedding. We help to keep little ones safe while they are sleeping by providing bassinets, pēpi-pods, and wahakura. It very much takes a team of people to be able to do this – we have a wonderful community of people donating items to us and swapping smaller things for larger ones as their little ones grow; we have an amazing team of knitters who are busy with their knitting needles year-round; and we need a dedicated team of Branch Executive/ Board Members to oversee what we do at governance level. This helps us to ensure that we are following good processes, and is an important level or layer of accountability to the people that we are providing our services to; and the people, groups, and funding organisations who support us. We always want to try to ensure that we're doing the best that we can, and our Branch Executive/ Board Members are a vital part of the team helping us to do that. Skills and experience: The main things that we want people to bring to the position are their enthusiasm, their desire to work as part of a team; and their desire to be part of a caring community. Day to day practicalities: Branch Executive/ Board meetings are held once a month (with the exception of January) in the evenings. Currently they are held via Zoom, but it is hoped to be able to get back to holding a combination of Zoom and face-to-face meetings (Covid Protection Framework health and safety considerations allowing). Expressions of interest in the position: People should email expressions of interest to [email protected] (We are more than happy to answer any questions that people may have about the position if people contact this email address). Please note that we are closed from December 22nd until January 12th, so we will respond to any queries made over this time when we re-open for the year. In the meantime, feel free to head over to our Facebook page (Pregnancy Help Ōtepoti Dunedin) to have a look at what we do, and what you can be an important part of.
