Plunket's Home Help service is a great way to give back to the community, and support new and existing parents on their parenting journey. We offer in-home help to parents of children aged zero to five, who may be experiencing a hard time or are in need of support. Our service aims to give free, short term and practical support to families who may need a helping hand. Covid-19 has made things harder for families who may be isolated from parents, grandparents and other extended whānau.
Tasks can include household management such as vacuuming, laundry and tidying, help with children (if required) and to support the parents in any other way. Having some company and adult-conversations during lonely, long days can make such a difference for parents too.
No experience is needed for this role, just a friendly face. We are looking for people who are: Practical, open-minded, reliable and honest, who can take initiative and show kindness.
- This role may suit someone with an interest in working with children, social work, support or community work. All demographic and ages welcome – This would be a great opportunity for students looking for experience working in the community, as well as parents, grandparents or those who are retired.
If this sounds like you, or if you would like more information, please get in contact. We are looking for volunteers for Dunedin, Mosgiel and East Otago.
