We are an inspiring intercultural exchange program for young people with disabilities empowering global/local inclusion and participation. In the face of a global pandemic we are set to launch the In Our Backyard campaign. In 2021 we are recruiting, selecting and orientating Companion Parents so that in 2022 we can facilitate National Exchanges for New Zealand High School students with mild to moderate disabilities throughout New Zealand (Whangarei, Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch). Companion Parents are local volunteers who will provide live in support to students while they are on their exchange. They will: Supervise all home activities of students : Provide all transportation needs to access school, activities and the community : Ensure that a safe and hygienic home environment is maintained : Encourage students to participate in household chores from the chores list : Ensure that meals are balanced and nutritious and to grocery shop accordingly : Be well informed of the health and disability needs of students and ensure they are maintained accordingly : Immediately attend to medical needs as they arise : Act in loco parentis during the exchange.
