Friday Food Rescue Chiller Truck Driver (BASED IN GRENADA NORTH)
Kiwi Community Assistance Charitable Trust (KCA) managed by Volunteer Wellington

Are you over 25 with a full car drivers licence? Are you passionate about redistributing food? This role is for a driver of our chiller truck but they must also assist the other team members. Food rescue volunteers work with 1-2 other team members from our chiller truck on a Monday morning. Volunteers will need their own transport to get to and from our Grenada North Depot. You must have a full car drivers licence and be over 25 years old for you to be covered by our vehicle insurance in the chiller truck. Full training is provided and there is an electronic manual and hard copy of a manual in the chiller truck for you to refer to. This voluntary role requires each volunteer to sort food being donated at various supermarkets/food manufacturers checking the use by and best before dates, crossing out the bar codes on all food being donated. All food being donated has to be weighed for recording purchases. Our food rescue team communicates with the various partner agencies collecting food from our chiller truck so a good phone manner is required. These partner agencies come from all over the Greater Wellington region as far as Kapiti to Upper Hutt and Wellington City. This role involves a lot of heavy lifting (15-20kgs) between 2 people, so you must be reasonably fit. We do provide you with a barrel trolley to wheel the stock to the chiller truck. Part time for a minimum of 3 months on a once-a-week basis (more often if you wish, and as spaces allow).
