About this opportunity
Keep New Zealand Beautiful (KNZB) is an iconic not-for-profit charitable organisation that has been leading the way in educating New Zealanders on how to ‘Do The Right Thing’ since 1967. It sits right up there with ‘Goodnight Kiwi’ and the ‘Buzzy Bee’. As we enter into our 52nd year, our aim to keep our communities safe, clean and green is now more relevant than ever. While other organisations have come and gone, KNZB has been embarking on a resurgence.
KNZB carries out its work through local, grassroots led, community-based KNZB organisations called branches. A KNZB local branch is a group of community members who are passionate about keeping New Zealand clean and green for the next generation of Tidy Kiwis and are ready to take the next step to lead the charge in their community to help fulfil KNZB's mission.
Branches are community-run, community-led organisations that partner with KNZB in their area to perform three main functions: service, education and advocacy. Our hope is that local branches set the foundation for KNZB’s work related to the Selwyn community. This includes setting up volunteer opportunities, educating your school and community around environmental issues and participating in KNZB programming.
Being a local branch opens the door to broader support from KNZB, but it also calls for more responsibility and investment in KNZB's mission. By starting a local branch, you join a network of similar groups around the country working to support KNZB in their community and beyond. Starting a local branch is a big commitment, but it comes with greater meaning and potential to create change in your community.
Keep New Zealand Beautiful plans to further develop its connection with Selwyn District Council which will enable us to enhance local branch capability through this engagement process.
“Selwyn has one of the youngest populations in New Zealand, we are a people that care deeply about next generation and our amazing district” says, local Councillor Craig Watson “Keep New Zealand Beautiful provides you with a new and exciting avenue to get involved in making Selwyn even more great. The commitment is only what you can put in, but the rewards are immeasurable for you, for your family and for your community”.
A meeting will be held at 7pm on the 29th of August at the brand new West Melton Community and Recreation Centre. Community members are invited to attend and learn more about the work that we undertake; light nibbles will be provided.
