About this opportunity
Matariki is the Maori name for the cluster of stars also known as the Pleiades. It rises in mid-winter and for many Maori it heralds the start of a new year. Traditionally it was a time for remembering the dead as well as celebrating new life and planting new crops. Join us for a special planting event in celebration of Matariki in Newlands. We will be helping local schools with tree planting and we will be creating a mokomoko (lizard) garden. Activities include creating rock piles for lizards as well as planting lizard-specific native plants and tree planting. We provide: an experienced team leader: tools: gloves: health and safety management and training. Free transport available - get in touch to book a seat as places are limited! What to wear/bring: sturdy boots: long sleeves and pants: a hat/beanie: waterproof jacket: water bottle: lunch and snacks.
