About this opportunity
Volunteers will need their own transport to get to and from our depot in Tawa to collect their uniform and equipment required to do this shift. You will be part of a team of 2 volunteers who will drive our chiller truck to Johsonville to rescue food from a local outdoor produce market. Our chiller truck requires a class 1 licence which is a car licence and you must be over 25 years. We also have a vacancy for a team member who does not drive the chiller truck - passenger. Once at Johnsonville Markets the stallholders will let you know what they want to donate. You will need to check the quality and then pack it into our food rescue crates. All crates with food are then weighed and recorded. Then the crates are placed into the chiller truck and driven to our chiller room in Linden. Then the truck comes back to Tawa. This role can involve a lot of heavy lifting (15-20kgs) between 2 people so you must be reasonably fit. A minimum commitment of 3 months is required for this shift and you are required to assist once a month. This role occurs rain or shine. If the weather is wet we provide you with wet weather gear.
