Wellington Environment & Conservation

About Mountains to Sea Wellington

Empowered young people and communities, engaged in their local environment, putting conservation and restoration into action.

Creating young kaitiaki for our rivers, harbours and coasts.

1. We provide inspiring education for the environment.
We do this by taking students into their local forests, streams, backyards, estuaries, harbours and coasts. They connect with these places through classroom sessions and practical hands-on activities, and by simply being in them.

2. We support students to develop as kaitiaki.
We do this by encouraging and resourcing student-led action and restoration projects, and facilitating links to conservation projects and environmental action in their local area.

3. We support and develop links to citizen science, enhanced collaboration and advocacy.
This ensures the programmes and student projects connect with locally
relevant issues that make a difference in their local environment – and are grounded in best practice and support community aspirations.

Our three main education programmes are:
1. Whitebait Connection
2. Experiencing Marine Reserves
3. Healthy Harbours Porirua
