Mission: Students for High Impact Charity (SHIC) is dedicated to helping students answer the question ‘how can we use our lives to most improve the world?’. We envision an entire global network of students with the technical ability to thrive in the real world and the vision to make it a better place for others. What SHIC does: SHIC provides an official program for student leaders or teachers to use in extra-curricular clubs or classes, attentive staff support, and expert fundraising guidance, at no cost to the participating schools or universities. SHIC’s program uses science and critical thinking to investigate the biggest issues in our world, and explore how students can achieve the most effective prosocial impact. The program covers many of the world's most pressing issues such as world poverty, effective (and ineffective) charities, animal welfare, catastrophic risks to humanity and climate change. Most importantly, students learn how to make meaningful and effective progress on these issues, and can begin to take action by fundraising for high-impact charities, and by considering effective career choices. What is high-impact charity? Throughout the course of our program, students will be introduced to different cause areas and the leading charities working in each field. Our selected high-impact charities are based on evidence, and have been vetted by charity evaluators GiveWell, Giving What We Can, The Life You Can Save, or Animal Charity Evaluators as having made demonstrable strides in doing the most good with the money they're given when compared with other organizations.
